Artistic Statement
My work lives within the boundaries of a loom. Each piece begins as a series of sketches, narrowed down to a single idea that I bring to the floor loom. From there the entire weaving is built by hand, every thread of every tuft tied individually onto the warp. Once the work is cut from the loom, I stretch it over a frame and set it into a custom maple surround, then brush and trim the surface until the shapes find their form. I'm drawn to organic shapes and their tactile qualities, the way a material invites you to touch it. I weave with wool and thrifted, recycled yarns, letting their textures carry feelings of comfort and curiosity. Slow and deliberate, each weaving is an experiment in tradition, a small act of patience held against a fast, technological world.
About
Freya Perron is a textile artist from Canada, now based in Switzerland. She weaves on a floor loom, hand-tying every thread into organic, tactile forms. She believes in the timelessness of slow handwork, a quiet counterweight to an otherwise fast, technological world. Working with wool and thrifted, recycled yarns, she hopes to express comfort and curiosity through natural materials.
