Artistic Statement
In his paintings and reliefs, Michael explores colour, movement, and materiality. From action and process emerge high-contrast compositions of gradients, blends, planes, lines, drips, and splashes that develop their own tensions. Working from sketched compositional drafts, he often creates serial groups of works whose autonomous visual solutions unfold individual dynamics and material presence. Michael works consistently in abstraction, deliberately avoiding figurative references. His works invite the viewer to freely explore perception and association, and to experience inner equilibrium and balance within the interplay of colour, form, and materiality.
About
Michael has been painting since his student days. A defining period in his artistic development was a year spent in New York, where he immersed himself in abstract painting and revitalised his practice. Today he works in a shared studio in Zurich's Seefeld district, which allows him to increasingly take on large-format works.
